Easiest 5 star review I've written in awhile. There was a lot of hype for our visit and even with our inflated expectations this place delivered. These people seem passionate about food and it comes through in the delivery quite well. The warm fresh bread was amazing, genuinely some of the best I've had at a restaurant. I believe I got the short ribs with bone broth au jus? and my wife got the mushroom risotto, both were fantastic. With a rotating menu of new dishes we are excited to come back to see what else they have in store. The location it self while small is nice and quaint and has character to it. The ordering system available was so easy and a smart way to do business, we ordered and paid entirely with our phone and just got up and left when we were ready. We sat in the front by the window and got to watch into the kitchen, someone making pasta in real time. I have yet to try the pasta to go but I'm sure it's just as good. Really looking forward to seeing their new location come to life. A real treat to Dayton. Real Score: 9.8/10

Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We were lucky enough to also meet Casey, an owner, who had worked in multiple Michelin Star restaurants (which is quite apparent by the amazing cuisine). Yet not a speck of pretentiousness in the establishment. Showcasing a ridiculous amount of talent, a true connoisseur of everything epicurean, a genuine interest in the clientele & beautifully presented culinary delights. Unbelievable food with a changing menu, wonderful atmosphere, kind & informative personnel, delicious wine - simply off the charts. Fresh bread and pasta made in house of which are absolutely beautiful and crazy delicious. Run, don’t walk… then sit, relax & enjoy. We certainly did.

Great unpretentious cafe bar that serves dinner until 9pm. Small menu of mostly pasta, but the quality is top-notch 🙌 Rosemary focaccia bread is good, even though the 1/2 portion is too much for one person! Overall a perfect last night meal in Dayton, highly recommended 👌

Had an amazing lunch at Grist in Dayton. The Fowl Play sandwich was next-level good, and the whole vibe of the place is modern, fun, and inviting. Highly recommend giving it a try!

We had our company Christmas party at Grist and I cannot recommend it enough. The food was exquisite. We had the focaccia, meatballs, and kale salad for appetizers and the beef and polenta, mushroom risotto, and bolognese for the mains. The service was top notch and they took great care of us. Thank you Grist team!

WOW! Best dining experience in Dayton, hands down. The staff, including Chef Sal and the hostess were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the meal was incredible.
I felt as though pricing was fair for the handmade, high quality, and delicious options. I enjoyed the seafood pasta, coffee, and tarte for lunch. I am still dreaming about the flavors. It was a memorable experience that made me leave with a smile. Will be returning, and recommending to friends and family. Thank you Grist!

This place is a must try if you want fresh authentic Italian food. We wanted something different gor lunch and decided to give this place a try. We went outside the box and ordered the Tortelli Di Zucca which was amazing, Pappardelle Alla Agnello Brasato and the lamb was so tender and flavorful it was the best lamb I have ever tasted and lastly the spinach and chicory salad. All dishes were so good we will definitely be back.

This is genuinely one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to — and that’s including well-known, high-end Italian spots in Columbus. I’ve been to the Cameron Mitchell Italian restaurants, and honestly, this place is better — and also cheaper.
The Scarpinocc de Manzo was absolutely incredible and easily the highlight of the meal. The braised beef and ricotta–filled pasta with bone marrow jus was rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. It’s one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal, and I would come back just for that alone.
The tiramisu is outstanding. I loved that it has chocolate chips mixed in — it adds a really nice texture and made it one of the best tiramisus I’ve had.
The rosemary & parmesan focaccia was also amazing. We ordered the full size for the table (pictured), and it was more than enough for four people, making it perfect for sharing.
We also tried the burrata. While it wasn’t my personal favorite, that’s more of a preference thing — I tend to like a more traditional burrata. That said, it was still well executed and thoughtfully composed.
One thing to note: reservations are highly recommended. This isn’t really a walk-in spot, but it’s absolutely worth planning ahead.
Overall, the quality, flavor, and value here are exceptional. Easily one of my favorite Italian restaurants, and I’ll definitely be back.
